Claude Can Read Your Bank Account Now. It Still Cannot Move Money, and the Feature Is US Pro, Max, and Ultra Only.

Anthropic began rolling out Personal Finance in Claude in beta the week of November 5 for US Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers. Users connect bank and card accounts through Plaid, and Claude answers questions about spending, bills, balances, and unusual transactions. Access is read-only: Claude cannot transfer, manage, or invest money, and Anthropic says it is not investment advice. Conversations inside the Personal Finance hub are excluded from training; chats outside it follow normal privacy settings. Anthropic says no ads, no sponsored recommendations, and no Anthropic credit products, and warns that Claude can misread figures, so verify with your bank. We read the announcement, the support article, and Plaid's post.

Anthropic is rolling out Personal Finance in Claude this week, in beta, to Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers in the United States. You connect bank and card accounts through Plaid, signing in at your bank so Claude never sees the password, and then you ask Claude about your money in plain language: what you spent on food this month, which bills are due, whether a transaction looks wrong, what is left. Claude reads the bank name, account name and type with the last four digits, balances, credit limits, and up to two years of transactions.

What it does not do is the product boundary, and Anthropic draws it in the first screen. Access is read-only. Claude cannot move money, manage accounts, or invest, and the feature is not designed as investment advice. Anthropic says there are no ads, no sponsored recommendations, and no Anthropic-offered cards, loans, or savings products. Conversations inside the Personal Finance hub are excluded from model training; conversations outside the hub follow your normal privacy settings; you can unlink at any time. And Anthropic says Claude can make mistakes, so for anything important, ask which transactions sit behind a number and check with the bank. We read the announcement, the support article, and Plaid's post. Here is what held up.

What It Is, and What It Is Not

Personal Finance in Claude (beta, week of November 5, 2026)
WhoUS subscribers on Pro, Max, and Ultra; Free, Team, and Enterprise not named
ConnectionPlaid; you sign in at your bank; Claude never sees the password
Data readBank name; account name, type, last four; balances; credit limits; up to two years of transactions

UnlinkingAny time
MonetizationNo ads, no sponsored recommendations, no Anthropic credit, loan, or savings products (Anthropic)
AccuracyAnthropic warns Claude can make mistakes; verify important figures with your bank
NextAnthropic says it is exploring Claude alongside licensed professionals and regulated firms, and inviting banks and wealth managers

Read-only is the product. Headlines that say Claude will "manage your money" describe something Anthropic says it did not build. What shipped is a reader and an explainer.

The training carve-out has an edge. Inside the hub, your conversations are excluded from training. Ask about the same transaction in a regular chat and the normal settings apply. Where you ask matters.

The error warning is not boilerplate. Category totals are Claude's parse of Plaid's data. The example math in the launch post is an illustration, not a measured user, and Anthropic's own advice is to make Claude show its work before you act on a number.

Not a neobank, by Anthropic's account. No ads and no house financial products is a positioning statement from the company, not a regulator's finding, and the roadmap sentence about banks and wealth managers is where the business model would eventually live.

Who Should Use It

Try it with one low-risk account if you are on a qualifying US plan and want a plain-language reader for your own transactions; unlink it after you have seen what it does.

Skip it as a system of record, as advice, or as anything your compliance team would call a finance integration; it is a consumer feature on consumer plans, and it says so.

The frontier is elsewhere: the banks spent last month blocking agents that log in with your credentials, and Anthropic built the version that goes through Plaid and cannot move money, which is the design the banks were asking for. Our model comparison has the current standings side by side.
