OpenAI Said It Doubled Every Pro Tier. Its Own Help Page Says Pro 200 Only Doubled the Lower Allowance.

On October 29 OpenAI's Thibault Sottiaux posted that usage limits were doubling for all Pro 100, 200, and 500 tiers and Business Premium, effective that day, and that Pro 200 would not be cut. The help page confirms the September 29 reduction is canceled and Pro 200 is reopened at $200, and it says Pro 100 and Pro 500 get twice their previous Work and Codex allowance. It also says that on Pro 200 only the lower allowance doubled: seats that already had the higher allowance keep what they had. Ultrafast stays Pro 500 only, at 8x Standard allowance and 6x credits. No absolute allowance numbers are published anywhere. We read the help page and the press relays of the post.

The Pro 200 cut is off. Today, October 29, 2026, on day 25 of OpenAI's 28-day run of quality-of-life changes, Thibault Sottiaux posted that OpenAI is "doubling all usage limits for all Pro 100/200/500 tiers and Business Premium, effective today," and that it will not be reducing Pro 200 after all. The help article on ChatGPT Pro tiers now says the September 29 reduction email is canceled, Pro 200 is reopened for new subscriptions at $200 a month, and Pro 100 and Pro 500 get twice their previous Work and Codex allowance.

Then the help page says something the post does not: "On Pro 200, only the lower allowance doubled." Pro 200 had two populations, seats on a higher Work and Codex allowance and seats on a lower one. The lower seats double to match the higher. The higher seats keep what they had, which is to say they get nothing. "Doubling all usage limits for all tiers" is the announcement; "only the lower allowance doubled" is the product. We read the help page, which is the primary, and the press relays of the post, since the community-forum body did not load in full. Here is what held up.

The announcement and the help page disagree, and the help page is the one that bills you. Sottiaux's "all" is the sentence that will be quoted. The help article's "only the lower allowance" is the one that describes what a given Pro 200 seat gets. If your seat already had the higher allowance, nothing doubled.

There are still no absolute numbers. The help page does not print a multiplier for Work and Codex. The 20x and 10x figures that circulated with the September email were from that email, as relayed by press; they are not on the page now, and we do not reprint them as current.

Ultrafast is expensive by design. Eight times the Standard allowance consumed per unit of work, six times the credit rate. It is Pro 500 only, and the help page says a larger allowance "does not guarantee" twice as many completed tasks.

What To Do

Open Settings, then Usage, and read your own allowance; do not assume your Pro 200 seat doubled because a post said all of them did.

Cite the help page for what shipped and the post for what was announced, and keep the two sentences apart when you write about it.

The frontier is elsewhere: the model behind the meter is the same model it was on Monday, and the other lab renamed its $200 tier the next day without changing the weekly cap either. Our model comparison has the current standings side by side.
